SURVEY SUMMARY GENERAL SURVEY
What is the most popular transport in the USA? How often do you use public transport? Why do people prefer taxis to public transport? Do you have your own car? Is it expensive to keep it? Do you think there are a lot of cars in your city and they cause air pollution? What do you do to keep your city clean?
This work is an attempt to analyze the survey made during my stay in Boston, MA. I wanted to find out what people in Boston think about public transport and taxi service in their city. In order to learn this I questioned 28 students of Snowden High School. A large number of those surveyed use the public transport regularly. The majority of those questioned use the bus or subway every day to get to school and back home. About half of students say that they use public transport even on weekends. The most popular transport in Boston is subway. 80% of the students state that they use it every day, because it is very comfortable. There are 4 lines and a lot of stations, so you can easily get to a place you need. Still 20% prefer to use buses. Taxis in Boston are less popular than other means of public transport though they take you to your destination much faster and you don't have to wait for them very long. Many students think that cabs are very expensive and besides some are afraid of taxi drivers. A large proportion of the students asked don't have their own cars, some do, but teenagers up to 16 are not allowed to drive. Still all the families have cars and some more than one. The students state that it is not expensive to keep a car. 95% say that there are too many cars in Boston and that they cause air pollution. Crowding and lack of cleanliness seem to be the main problem. As a result it is recommended that more buses should be put on all lines during rush hours and serviced more often to make them more comfortable for passengers. A lot of people in the USA use public transport regularly, still there are a lot of cars. So it is quite easy to get to your destination, but at the same time people would like to see their city cleaner and more suitable for living. TOP
